Stop Scaring Me With Richard Riehle Trends

Every time this man trends I almost drop my hangover beer thinking we lost the patron saint of sweating through a poly-blend shirt.

My thumb slipped while sitting on the toilet waiting for three generic Ibuprofen to dissolve the cement block behind my left eye.

Then I saw his name trending.

Panic.

Pure, cold, ass-clenching dread.

Not Richard Riehle.

Don't you dare take him from me, 2024.

Turns out he's totally fine. Just people giving the man his flowers or whatever the internet calls it when they suddenly realize an old guy has been in every movie they've watched since puberty.

Thank Christ.

I cracked a room-temperature Miller Lite in celebration.

Flat.

Tasted like wet pennies.

Didn't care.

Richard Riehle is the human embodiment of a Monday morning dry heave.

Look at him.

The glorious, bristling walrus mustache.

The posture of a man who has hauled fifty-pound bags of water-softener salt down basement stairs every weekend since the Carter administration.

He is the ultimate "That Guy."

He played the "Jump to Conclusions" guy in Office Space.

A role that hits way too close to my shriveled liver.

Because every single weekday around 8:15 AM, while staring down an inbox full of unearned corporate optimism, I too contemplate driving my beat-up sedan straight into a concrete barrier just for the workers' comp settlement.

That's art.

That's a man holding up a mirror to the working-class soul.

In Hollywood, everyone is starved, injected with horse vitamins, and drinking liquefied celery so they can look like an alien on an IMAX screen.

Richard Riehle looks like he lives entirely on ham steaks, unfiltered Luckies, and high-cholesterol spite.

My kids heard me sigh with relief from across the house.

"Is the dog okay?" my wife yelled from the kitchen.

"The dog is fine," I hollered back. "The guy from The Fugitive isn't dead."

A cabinet slammed shut with unnecessary violence.

Classic Sunday.

Riehle has something like 400 acting credits to his name.

Four. Hundred.

That’s not a filmography.

That’s a union tradesman who shows up, punches the clock, sweats profusely through a beige short-sleeve button-down, delivers four lines about an extradition treaty, and takes the check straight to the bank before the ex-wife finds out.

A true hero.

May the bastard live forever.

Enjoyed the roast?

The whole book reads like this.

Binge Drinker: A Memoir (Kind Of) — a four-day bender in book form.
